FAQ

  • How much does it cost to apply?
    $40 for the 1st two entries and $10 for additional entries.
  • When do I ship/deliver my art piece?
    Please make delivery arrangements for your accepted piece after you receive a confirmation email. Call Kerstin at 619-310-6716 or email gallery@woodwardcontemporary.com.
  • How much is the gallery commission?
    There is a standard 40% commission split for all gallery sales. 60% goes to the artist.
  • How can I sign up for Art Calls?
    To receive Woodward Contemporary art calls, subscribe to our email list and follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Art calls will be handled through CaFÉ (Call for Entry).
  • How often do you send out Art Calls?
    Exhibitions will take place every 6 weeks, so you can expect to receive 7-9 Art Calls per year.
  • Where do I park during drop-off and pickup?
    There are 14 subterranean unreserved parking spots.
  • Should I purchase art insurance?
    Woodward Contemporary is not liable for loss, damage or theft. Artist is responsible for pick up, delivery and insurance.
  • What is the cancellation and refund policy?
    ENROLLMENT Enrollment is only guaranteed with registration and full payment. MISSED CLASSES There are no makeup days, refunds or credits issued for missed classes. STUDENT CANCELLATIONS Cancellations made 31 days before the first day of class receive a full refund, less any fees paid by Woodward Contemporary and a $100 processing fee. Student cancellations must be submitted in writing to: gallery@woodwardcontemporary.com Any cancellations made 30 days or less in advance of the first day will receive no refund, unless there is a waitlist, and another student takes that place; then the student shall receive a full refund less any fees paid by Woodward Contemporary and a $100 processing fee. No refund, credits, or transfers will be applied on or after the workshop start date. A $100 fee will be charged on all returned checks. WOODWARD CONTEMPORARY CANCELLATIONS Each workshop requires a student minimum. If the minimum is not met 30 days before the start date, the workshop may be cancelled. If Woodward Contemporary cancels the workshop for any reason, students shall receive a 100% refund. Students will be notified of cancellation via email. A full refund will be issued. It is recommended that students not make non-refundable travel or lodging arrangement prior to 30 days. STUDENT BEHAVIOR Should a student harass fellow students or instructors or contribute to a disruptive or harmful learning environment, Woodward Contemporary reserves the right to cause the immediate departure of the student from the workshop. No refund would be provided for any remaining or unused portion of the course fees. NO WAIVERS These terms shall not be reduced or waived in the event of circumstances beyond our control such as illness, flight cancellations, injury or death, natural disaster or force of nature.   • Where can I park?

  • Are you accepting new instructors?
    Woodward Contemporary provides excellent instructors that do not commonly teach in the San Diego area. If you would like to be considered as an instructor, please tap the Become an Instructor button below.​
  • How can I find out about new workshops?
    To get advance notice of workshops, subscribe to our email list and follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Workshops are offered once a month.
  • Is lunch provided?
    You may bring your own lunch or enjoy the complimentary lunch provided daily in the studio during your workshop.
  • Are supplies included with registration?
    Easels, tables and chairs are provided. Please bring the rest of the supplies you need, as indicated by the instructor. Instructors will email you a supply list prior to the workshop with ample time to purchase supplies.
  • How do I rent a locker?
    Visit the Locker Rental page for more information.
  • How much does a locker cost?
    Locker rental is $50 per month.
  • What items are prohibited?
    No firearms, explosives or flammables are allowed in the lockers.
  • How do I pay for my locker?
    Locker rental payment is due the 1st of the month. If paid after the 5th, a $10 late fee will be incurred. A 30-day notice of locker rental cancellation is required. Locker rental payment is complete exclusively online. Credit card and PayPal fees apply. Tap the Make a Payment button below to pay for your locker.
  • Are locks provided?
    No. Please provide your own lock. ​

  • How much is an Open Studio Membership?
    There are two Open Studio Membership options with a maximum of 24 participants per day. 3 Days / Week (M-W-F) | $200 per month 3 Days / Week (T-Th-Sa) | $200 per month
  • Is canvas wall space available in Open Studio?
    Upon availability, 5 weekly wall spaces are available in the Open Studio by reservation only. Contact Kerstin at 619-‭310-6716‬ or gallery@woodwardcontemporary.com to reserve your spot.
  • Are supplies included?
    Easels, tables and chairs are provided. Please bring the rest of the supplies you need.
  • Will a team member be on site?
    Yes.
  • How/when do I pay my Open Studio Membership dues?
    Open Studio Membership payment is completed exclusively online. Credit card and PayPal processing fees apply. We do not accept cash payment or Venmo. Payment is due the 1st of the month. If paid after the 5th, a late charge of $20 will be incurred.
  • What items are prohibited?
    The use of any toxic or flammable materials will not be used in the Open Studio due to health concerns.​
  • Are walk-ins allowed?
    Upon availability, walk-ins are allowed by reservation only. Contact Kerstin at 619-‭310-6716. The Open Studio walk-in fee is $30/day.
  • Are there opportunities to show my work in the gallery?
    Yes. The gallery showcases a diverse selection of works by San Diego artists and beyond. Art calls are sent out throughout the year. Please subscribe to our email list for notifications.
  • What are Open Studio hours?
    9:00 am - 5:30 pm (Monday - Saturday)
  • Are any items prohibited?
    Firearms, explosives, smoking and flammables are strictly prohibited. The use of oil paints and non-flammable encaustic materials are allowed in private studios if your studio has appropriate ventilation.
  • Are supplies included?
    Please provide your own supplies: easels, paints, brushes, etc. The use of oil paints and non-flammable encaustic materials are allowed in private studios if your studio has appropriate ventilation. If you're using a solvent for oils, only Gamsol is allowed.
  • When do I have access to my studio?
    Studio artists enjoy access to their private studios from 6:00 am - 10:00 pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Is subletting allowed?
    No.
  • Are studio dogs allowed?
    Yes. We love Studio Dogs at Woodward Contemporary! Please make sure that your dog is up-to-date with their shots and gets along with others. We have the right to refuse any animal, for any reason.
  • How do I pay for my studio?
    Payment for studios is completed exclusively online using the Pay for My Studio form below. Credit card and PayPal processing fees apply. We do not accept cash payments.
  • Which common areas/amenities are included with studio rental?
    Upstairs kitchen, clean-up sinks, balconies and outdoor areas such as front patio and outdoor parking of the facility are intended for use by studio artists.
  • How much does it cost to rent a studio?
    Please contact a team member at gallery@woodwardcontemporary.com to inquire about studio rental cost. A $300 security deposit is required.
